Paeroa Wild Food Wine & Art Festival
20th March 2010, Paeroa Domain, Arney Street, Paeroa
For a day of good music, amazing art, great food and wonderful wine and beer, make sure you come to the Paeroa Wild Food & Art Festival.
The festival this year really starts two weeks before the main event with sculptor, Lauren Kitts working on a new sculpture for Paeroa in the domain.
The proposed sculpture is made out of local Maratoto stone and is a beautiful piece entitled “Go with the Flow”. It is possible to go and watch Lauren at work and see the sculpture as it emerges from the massive block of stone.
On the day, other artists will be working, including woodcarvers and weavers who will be demonstrating their art with an opportunity to try your hand at these things as well. Children will be able express themselves artistically too with face painting and clay modelling in their own area under the trees.
A live band playing throughout the day provides the background music while a variety of musicians and entertainers take their turn to bring you a wide range of styles and sounds.
Set up under the trees, stalls selling food, wine and handcrafts will entice you.
As the weather is traditionally hot and sunny during this festival the shade is welcome as you browse, eat and drink. At least fifty stalls selling handcrafts and a variety of artworks and fifteen stalls selling the wild and other food is what the festival is all about. Some of the food stalls are run by local community groups and schools to raise funds and these will include Karangahake School selling their delicious wild pork sandwiches.
Eight stalls selling wine and beer including labels like Mata Beer, Ohinemuri Winery and Cooks Beach Winery will enable you to sample great beverages and match them with some of the wonderful food. These are all boutique wineries and breweries so there will be a wide range of specialty products
The entry fee is $10 for adults and it is free for children. Adults receive a free festival glass as part of their entry fee
